ABB's latest study reveals that mining companies could gain over a month of additional production each year by adopting predictive maintenance strategies for their hoisting systems. Benchmarking current maintenance practices across six regions and various sectors, including diamond, gold, copper, and potash mining, the report highlights that transitioning from reactive to proactive maintenance could bridge a 15 percent availability gap, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and productivity.
The study highlights that moving from reactive to predictive maintenance could enhance hoist system reliability and efficiency. Continuous monitoring enables early issue detection, potentially reducing downtime and improving performance. As mining operations delve deeper, adopting proactive maintenance strategies may become increasingly important for optimizing hoist productivity and operational effectiveness.
“Hoists are one of the most expensive and vital assets within a mining operation, so keeping them running optimally is crucial for an effective mining operation. Without a thorough maintenance program, replacing these systems can be costly, risky and time-consuming. We designed the World Class Maintenance Standard to give users a benchmark to design the right program for their assets and reinforce the value, which, when fully utilized, can keep hoists running for several decades.
